Just Start

I figured writing this in January wouldn’t be a bad way to start the new year! Typically, the new year is met with new goals, challenges, excitement for growth, and overall, just aiming to see change in our life for the better.

When we begin something of great challenge, we often look for the perfect way, moment, or place to begin. Often feeling that unless the conditions are absolutely perfect, we won’t succeed.

Through whatever obstacle I am getting ready to overcome or goal I am working towards, I have found one thing that has always been true to set me up for success…

Just Start.

Whether a fitness journey, a new work assignment, or working on relationships, the only way to get through it, is to first begin.

Let me explain!

I will start with an example. Let’s take a look at Bison for starters. When faced with a storm most animals (us included), would look to run away from the storm, constantly looking back to see how close it’s getting. This results in constantly living in fear, tired, and eventually still getting caught by the very storm believed to outrun.

Bison are the only animal documented to walk straight into the storm. You’d think, ‘idiotic’, however, by walking into and through the storm, they shorten their time in it. They never fear of the possibility of it catching them. They don’t wear down in strength by running from it. They simply tackle it head on.

Just Start.

No journey will ever be perfect. Not every workout will be a winner. Not every job interview left with an offer. But, if you simply begin, you will eventually reach your desired destination, and you will certainly be getting there a lot quicker then if you continued telling yourself you couldn’t succeed.

Go towards your storm…
