Where Do I Begin?

If you are starting a new journey, or dreamt up the idea of completing one and questioning where to go from here, you are in the right place! Let’s talk the building blocks that it takes to reach any goal.

Mindset. Consistency. Accountability. Drive.

So, get out those note books and write down the goals you have.

Now that we have these goals down, now what? If we don’t truly know how to start, my biggest advice:

Just Start.

If I am losing you here and you are starting to think to yourself “it really isn’t that easy”, I challenge you to question if that is what has held you up so far? Have you started? Or have you simply been worried about failure you chose not to begin? Or, have you started, failed, and chose not to start again?

Let’s walk through this together.

If you read my ‘About Me’ at all, I have always been adventurous, always been fit, and typically would NEVER dream of skipping a gym day. And then, my beautiful daughter graced us with her presence and my world flipped. I was the heaviest I’d ever been, would always put myself last, and if I did start, I’d quit.

Today though, I am more fit than before pregnancy, stronger, happier, and mentally the healthiest I’ve ever been. To be honest though, I quit a lot throughout my journey to getting here. So, how do we begin to even get to these goals we have?

Just Start

Get up, go to the gym. Sit in the hot tub and do no weights, but go.

Save $1. Start the savings account. Pass one typical day of buying a coffee and put that $5 away.

Set one boundary with a friend. Say no one time to going out, make up a terrible excuse, but say no.

By starting, we probably will fail and go back to normal habits, but we are starting small, a simple micro habit that will eventually take off. You can’t expect to change a lifetime habit overnight.

Have Accountability

This one is tough. Accountability is the act of taking responsibility. It really doesn’t look the same for everyone or even in every situation, but by holding ourselves accountable we are more likely to stay on track.

The tough part. I am the first person to give myself an excuse. Especially at the start of any goal. Let’s brainstorm some ideas to hold yourself accountable.

  • Maybe it is buying a savings notebook to track how much you save; The act of spending as you are trying to save is a good push as you are investing in yourself.

  • Have a buddy go to the gym with you

  • Send daily progress pictures to a buddy or yourself

By having the accountability, we have to see when we are falling off or not truly reaching the level we want. This can help on those days our mind is telling us “I don’t wanna!”

Celebrate Your Wins

The thing I learned that really set my journey and me up for success, is I stopped the negative talk. As someone who’d been fit her whole life and it was easy for me, when it was hard, I talked down to myself so bad to the point I thought “What’s the point?” As I stopped this, I was more motivated than ever to continue to improve.

My journey at the gym started with making it fun and something I couldn’t wait to do! Every day I would do a tiny workout, (walk 5 minutes), and then I would soak in the hot tub, go sit in the sauna, then take a long hot shower, got ready for the day and then left. (If you are a momma in any capacity, you’ll understand the shower part the most.) My point is, I looked forward to it. I celebrated if I made it to the gym 3-5 days a week and I never even worked out! I just got there, and that was a win. A couple months later I worked out longer, substituted some hot tub days for all weights, and eventually landed on working out hard 5 days a week, no hot tub and got myself to a 19% body fat. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN OVER NIGHT!

By celebrating my entire journey, I eventually got to my goals, and in a very healthy way.

Focus on Nutrition, Sleep, and Relationships

These are combined for a reason. Let’s just get to it.

You feed yourself junk, you’ll feel like it. (I’m not saying diet, but have a healthy balance.)

Exhaustion is a nasty thing on your body and mind.

Who you surround yourself with is who you’ll mimic, choose wisely.

I am a momma, I get these aren’t always easy, but even being on the go, with a toddler, and working a full job while providing fulltime care to my daughter, I make it work. I created a planner just for you to schedule out your day and meals. I do this once a month to get ahead and make it easier on me!
